Lesson 6 of 7 · 6 min
Connect WeChat
What a WeChat Service Account can and can't do, and what you need before you connect.
What you'll learn
- Know which WeChat account type you need
- Understand WeChat's messaging limits
- Plan how guests start a WeChat conversation
StreamHost connects to a WeChat Official Service Account (微信公众服务号). This is not a standard WeChat Official Account (微信公众号).
- Create and manage the account on the WeChat Official Account Platform.
- Watch the onboarding video.
Platform limits
WeChat, not StreamHost, sets these limits:
- You can't start a conversation. The guest must message you first, by scanning your WeChat QR code or searching for your Service Account in WeChat.
- No scheduled messages. Automatic or timed messages aren't supported.
- No WhatsApp-style templates.
- 72-hour reply window. After a guest messages you, you can reply freely for 72 hours, sending up to 5 messages in a row before the guest replies. After 72 hours with no reply from the guest, you can't message them until they write again.
- No video or PDF attachments.
Verification
WeChat requires the Service Account to be verified before it can be activated. As of October 2026:
- There's an annual verification fee of USD 99, paid to Tencent.
- The supporting documents must be printed, signed by an authorised company representative, stamped with the company chop, then scanned and uploaded.
How a WeChat conversation works in StreamHost
- The guest scans your WeChat QR code, or finds your Service Account, and sends a message.
- You reply and ask for their booking slip or details.
- You find the booking in your PMS and tag the guest in StreamHost with their reservation (building, unit, platform, check-in and checkout dates).
- You reply using quick responses or by typing.
